Tirzepatide is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). Counsel patients on the potential risk of MTC and symptoms of thyroid tumors.
Have a personal or family history of MTC or MEN 2.
Have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
Have a history of pancreatitis or gastroparesis.
Have known allergies to semaglutide or other GLP-1 medications.
Have a history of suicide attempts or active suicidal thoughts.
Acute Pancreatitis: Monitor and discontinue if suspected.
Gallbladder Disease: Evaluate if cholelithiasis is suspected.
Gastroparesis: GLP-1 agonists can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms.
Hypoglycemia: Risk may increase when used with insulin.
Kidney Injury: Monitor renal function in patients with severe gastrointestinal reactions.
Hypersensitivity: Discontinue if suspected.
Pregnancy: Discontinue immediately if pregnancy is recognized.
Suicidal Behavior and Ideation: Monitor for symptoms of depression or suicidal thoughts.
Pregnancy: May cause fetal harm. Discontinue if pregnancy occurs.
Reproductive Potential: Discontinue at least 2 months prior to planned pregnancy.
Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, headache, abdominal pain, and fatigue.
